::Team Twilight:: Fan Fiction Friday

Close your eyes and imagine with me… Emmett wearing U.S. Marine formal attire, Jasper in U.S. Army Special Forces formal dress, and Edward in U.S. Air Force formal dress… hmmm. Well, now that I have you completely distracted, you’re not going to get anything else done for the rest of the day, so you might as well start early and follow me to the Love Shack. Lab Tech Andi has found a few tales to help feed this hunger for military men, so when we get to the blue door, knock the melody of “The yellow Rose of Texas” and the password is “Always Focused”. Be safe!

You know, the thing about holidays is that stuff tends to get backed up. There was a ton of filing that needed to be done and there was no use putting it off any longer. Alice was sitting at my desk reading through a few stories for me, while I got caught up on the mundane task. I had just walked over to the filing cabinet with an arm full of papers when Alice squealed in delight; I clutched the papers tight to my chest to avoid dropping them and whirled around to her, “What?”

“Andi, do you have any plans from Wednesday thru the weekend?” she asked and then started bouncing in her seat.

“No, but you probably knew that.” I said with a smile. “What are you planning?” She started quickly typing away at the keyboard and texting on her cell phone.

“Well, it’s going to be cloudy in Houston, Texas on Veterans’ Day and they’re having a parade. So, what better way to celebrate Jasper being a veteran than to visit his hometown! Then we can spend a little time helping out at the Veterans’ Medical Center there and after that we’ll head to Isle Esme for the rest of the weekend.” She explained in a rush continuing to type frantically making plans.

“Wow, that sounds great, but what about all the work here?” I wondered aloud.

“Andi, you already have the stories available and once I make these arrangements you’ll have just enough time to pull everything together. I’ll pop on over to your place and pack you a quick bag. So put that filing down woman and get crackin’!” She commanded, typed a few more things and then stood up. “You have nine hours. See you in a little bit.” Then she flew out the door with a small giggle.

I sat down at my desk and blinked a few times. Boy, things sure do happen quick around here, I thought. As my eyes focused on the monitor, I noticed that Alice had several stories pulled up and ready for me look over, so maybe I could do this. With my fingers hovering over the keys, I pondered to myself, I wonder if I’d have enough time to make some no-bake cookies for the veterans in Houston. Before I even pressed the first key, Alice popped her head back in the door, “You’ll have plenty of time for your strange cookies if you limit the number of stories to three.” Then she was gone again.

“Thanks Alice!” I yelled after her. Damn she’s fast!

In honor of those who serve to protect the U.S. in all capacities, my tales this week will put our favorite family in enlisted positions. Besides, I can think of few things that are sexier than a man in uniform. Mmmm, the Cullen boys in military dress …. Oh I’m sorry! Where was I? Oh yes, service stories, Enjoy!

My first veteran tale called “The Nation's First Daughter” by MDealsWithIt involves the president and the Secret Service. Alice is the First Daughter of the US and hates being treated like a baby. However, it’s an election year and threats have been floating around the oval office; President Carlisle Cullen doesn’t want to take any chances. However, when an invitation to a senator’s son’s party shows up, Alice enlists her mother’s help to convince her father it’s safe to let her go. Things are never what they seem and Alice soon discovers the truth in that statement when she’s suddenly abducted by a beautiful, smooth talking man from the very party her father didn’t want her to attend. Only her journey has just begun. This fic is complete at five beautiful chapters is there’s no excuse to not read it.

I found my second veteran in an awesome little completed story titled “Letters From Another World” by Clarissa Frey. Bella Swan is in the final semester of her senior year when her teacher introduces a pen pal project. Bella hates this assignment and is trying everything to discourage her assigned pen pal from writing her, but he finds her intriguing speech and attitude humorous so he continues to write back. Soon she discovers he's a lonely soldier, with no family to write or receive news from. Uncover with her the reasons for his separation and the unusual circumstances that these lives come together; it will change them both in the most unimaginable way.

My last veteran comes to us in the sweetest little completed tale ever told called “The Wallflower and The Flyboy” by A Cullen Wannabe. During World War II, Bella Swan meets Navy Pilot Edward Cullen at a USO dance her friends nearly dragged her to attend. After a whirlwind two week romance and one wedding later, they suddenly find themselves facing long term separation as he’s scheduled to ship off four days later. While Edward fights his battles on the other side of the ocean, Bella begins to find that she has her own set of battles and unexpected challenges to overcome as the wife of such an important man. Will their love be enough to help them build a strong foundation amidst such turmoil?

With offerings this sweet, I can only pair them with some as equally sweet, my “No-Bake Cookies”

3 cups Sugar
1/2 cup Butter (1 stick)
1 tbsp Cocoa
3/4 cup Milk
Pinch of Salt
3/4 cup peanut butter
4 cups quick oats

Combine sugar, butter, cocoa, milk, and salt in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, and then remove from heat. Immediately dissolve peanut butter in pan. Once incorporated, add remaining ingredients. Let cool slightly. Drop onto wax paper with a spoon and allowing them to completely cool.
