::Team New Moon:: Iron Man 2 Falls Far Short of our Sparkly Record.

Iron suit or not, Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2, starring Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow, wasn’t strong enough to surpass the first day opening of, gasp, a “chick flick”: Chris Weitz’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Robert Pattinson’s lovestruck vampire and Kristen Stewart’s troubled human easily kicked iron ass. How ironic (awful pun intended), considering that Hollywood studios make movies geared to 12-year-old boys and tend to relegate women to the sides, both in front and behind the camera.

According to Box Office Mojo, Iron Man 2’s $52.4m opening, which includes approximately $7.5m it earned at Thursday midnight screenings, is no. 7 on the all-time list for first-day box-office grosses.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon is no. 1 with $72.7m, followed by Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (the record-holder for a three-day weekend, with $158m), Michael Bay’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 3, Daniel Radcliffe’s Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.

The original Iron Man opened with $35.2m in 2008.

Figures on the Box Office Mojo chart haven’t been adjusted for inflation, of course, though the difference wouldn’t have been too glaring since most of the movies found on their list are mid-to-late 2000s releases. Exception to this rule: movies that made most (or even a good chunk) of their money at 3D/IMAX venues, e.g., The Dark Knight, Avatar, Alice in Wonderland.

::Team Eclipse:: Todays Oprah audience were the first to see Eclipse.

The cries of jealousy can already be heard around the web. The audience at today's taping of Oprah's May 13 show got to see The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. But you don't have to wait a week to find out what they thought. The fan-packed audience is already postings Twitter reviews, compiled by Moviefone.

Here's a sampling of what they've said:

@JustSoJazzyDiva OMFG @Twilight Saga #Eclipse was so freaking good!!! Blew Twilight & New Moon out the water!!! It was AMAZING!! YES!!! The leg hitch was in the movie!!! Suuuch a hott scene!!!

@MochaChick8705 OMG!!! #Eclipse was so amazing!! Can't wait to go to the Oprah show tomorrow to see Rob, Kristen, Taylor, and Dakota!! Look for my tweets!!

@Vivian_Ortiz Eclipse was amazing! Can't wait to see the final version! Best Movie Yet.

The final cut of the movie will get its world premiere screening at next month's Los Angeles Film Festival, announced the L.A. Times today. Festival director Rebecca Yeldham defended the somewhat mainstream decision.

If we program a movie like Twilight that draws audiences that might not otherwise attend film festivals, hopefully we'll expose them to other cinematic experiences that we think are inspiring.

Only festival goers who purchase top-level passes ($500 to $1,000) will get into the June 24 showing. What do you think, Twilighters? Is the L.A. Film Festival the right venue for the first Eclipse screening? And don't worry, Summit confirmed that this is not the official premiere, which will still be taking place in Los Angeles next month.

::Team Breaking Dawn:: It's OFFICIAL! November 18, 2011 Movie Release

“ A Summit Entertainment spokesperson has confirmed to HitFix that “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” will open nationwide on Nov. 18, 2011. It’s still officially unknown if “Dawn” will be broken up into one or, as rumored, two films. Stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner are all expected to return.
Directed by Oscar-winner Bill Condon, the fourth book in Stephenie Meyer’s popular series chronicles Bella’s most advanced initiation into the vampire world to date, but is also seen by many as the most difficult to adapt of all the best-selling novels. Melissa Rosenberg, who adapted the first two novels, would continue in that role for “Dawn.”

The third movie in the series, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” will debut in theaters on June 30 nationwide and in IMAX.”
