::Team Stephenie:: ‘The Host’ Movie Writer/Director’s Other Sci-fi Project: I’m.mortal

Andrew Niccol is a name you might want to tuck away in your memory for future reference. He’s known for writing huge movie hits like The Truman Show and Gattaca (which he also directed). He’s also writing (with Stephenie Meyer’s help) and directing the movie The Host that will bring her best-selling Scifi/Romance to life on the big screen in 2011.

He is the perfect fit for The Host! But he’s also got another exciting project underway that is circulating quite a bit of talk. I’m.mortal has movie and entertainment blogs buzzing with casting rumors and announcements almost in the same way we do with The Twilight Saga. (but we’re a little more obsessive )

Big names like Amanda Seyfried, Justin Timberlake and Cillian Murphy who played the Scarecrow in Batman Begins are coming up as being attached to or finalizing negotiations for I’m.mortal, which Andrew Niccol also wrote and is directing.

Synopsis via IMDb.com: In the not-too-distant future the aging gene has been switched off. To avoid overpopulation, time has become the currency and the way people pay for luxuries and necessities. The rich can live forever, while the rest try to negotiate for their immortality. A poor young man who comes into a fortune of time, though too late to help his mother from dying. He ends up on the run from a corrupt police force known as ‘time keepers’.

I’m.mortal, like The Host, is slated for release in 2011, however, it is likely that I’m.mortal will make it to theaters earlier than The Host considering the hectic schedule Stephenie Meyer will continue to be under while producing Breaking Dawn. But seeing the latest project from Andrew Niccol beforehand will give us a great chance to get even more of a feel for his unique style!

Hey guys,
I want to do something different with publicity for this movie release. For Twilight, I did the normal press junket, for New Moon I got to go on Oprah. Both of these were fun, exciting experiences. However, they both had the same drawback—the interviews were designed for a very broad audience, and because of that, most of the questions were about things you guys have known the answers to for years. I feel like all of the basic questions have been answered, and for Eclipse I want to focus on the more specific questions of the readers. To accomplish that, I'm hosting my own mini-junket with a few fansites. It will be held on Friday, June 18th, the week before the L.A. premiere.
Unfortunately, I can't talk to every single site, and I want to keep this as low key and enjoyable as possible. So I put all the U.S. fansites in a hat (for logistical reasons, we had to keep this in the country) and drew out four names.
  The names I drew were:

Each of these sites is invited to send two members of their staff (or one member and a guest) to our fan-centric mini-junket. You will be contacted shortly by my assistant, who will give you all the specific information. In the event that any of the sites is unable to send representatives, I've already drawn four back up sites, which I will post if it becomes necessary.
I'll answer all of your questions (and your readers questions, if you want to poll them) about the Eclipse Movie, and the Bree story, as well, which will have been out for a few weeks by then. We'll have lunch, hang out, and hopefully have a fantastic time. I hope you all can make it!

::Team Stephenie:: Blue October Speaks Out on the Soundtracks.

“I have a big mouth, so watch out.” This is Justin Furstenfeld’s warning to me at the beginning of our conversation. Furstenfeld is the lead singer of Blue October, a band with known hits such as “Calling You” and “Black Orchid.” His warning proves true, as throughout our discussion, he elaborates on such subjects as depression, divorce, and broken promises.
Blue October, Furstenfeld’s brainchild, had its beginnings under a different name. He started a band in high school called Last Wish. But the chemistry in the group was off — they all accused Furstenfeld of being too dramatic. “So I fired them,” he said. Naturally.
Furstenfeld eventually formed Blue October as an outlet for his diagnosed depression. “I wanted to do something positive with the negativity,” Furstenfeld said. He describes Blue October’s music as “bipolar art rock; up and down, all over the place.” The content of the music isn’t something meant foFr dinner conversation. “I like to bring shit up that people don’t like to talk about so we can get it out in the open — the elephant in the room.”
Furstenfeld did just that during our conversation — he talked about his love for “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer and his disdain for her representation. Rumors circulated last year that Blue October, who toured with Meyer, would have a song on one of the Twilight soundtracks. But it never came to pass, and the reasons behind it remained a mystery.
“Me and Stephenie Meyer are great friends,” Furstenfeld said. “I hate her camp, but I love her. Stephenie Meyer had the balls to take me to dinner…she said, ‘I wanna put your songs in my movies…’ and I was like, ‘Wow. That’s my dream — let’s do it.’ First movie comes out, no song. Second movie comes out, no song. Her management was like, ‘Everything we told you was a lie.’”
The other elephant in the room that Furstenfeld wanted to talk about was his highly publicized breakdown and tour cancellation last year. After not seeing his daughter, Blue (“I didn’t name her after the band”), for three months, Furstenfeld blacked out in an airport and had to be hospitalized. “They don’t like it when people go crazy in airports,” he said.
After recuperating, Furstenfeld is ready to go back on the road again with the Pick Up the Phone Tour. Blue October, in conjunction with To Write Love On Her Arms and Postsecret, are touring to spread suicide awareness. He’s got his mind set on his daughter and on is own mental health. “Believe in the Lord. That’s what my mom says. Trust in God.”
