::Team Breaking Dawn:: Worldwide "Breaking Dawn" Opening Weekend Sales Sets Record for Saga

The estimated numbers for opening weekend sales of the Twilight Saga "Breaking Dawn Part 1" are in and can I say, WOW!!

In looking at only the domestic box office sales, "Breaking Dawn" came in second to "New Moon", but if you look at the midnight ticket sales and the worldwide totals "Breaking Dawn" rose above and beyond making its debut weekend the fifth-best on record!

Here's a chart of the numbers as gathered by boxofficemojo.com:

In US Dollars
(Millions)
Midnight Domestic Opening Weekend Overseas Opening Weekend Worldwide Opening Weekend Totals Overall Box Office Sales To Date
Twilight
69.6 6.3 75.9 392.6
New Moon 26.27 142.8 132.1 274.9 709.8
Eclipse 30 157.5 104.6 262.1 698.5
Breaking Dawn Part 1 30.3 139.5 144 283.5 283.5

Cbsnews.com stated:

In an industry whose main audience is young males, "Twilight" is a rare blockbuster franchise driven by female viewers. Distributor Summit Entertainment reported that women and girls made up 80 percent of the audience for "Breaking Dawn."

The popularity of "Twilight" has left many men scratching their heads, even those involved in releasing the movies.

"I'm 53 years old, and I haven't figured it out yet," said Richie Fay, head of distribution for Summit. "It relates really to young girls and things that are important to them, their romantic ideas of love and relationships, without getting so physical, at least on screen, that it becomes a worry for their parents."

So, Summit hasn't figured it out??  Really??  The fans have; even the actors understand, so maybe they should have more women promoting to a female fan-base and fewer 53 year-old men, not that their male ignorance has hurt them at all.  The Twilight fandom will see to its success with or without the help of Summit.

::Team Breaking Dawn:: SPOILER ALERT- What's Being Filmed Where & When

A source at the Louisiana Film Commission has revealed which scene from the anticipated final installment of the Twilight movie franchise will be filming very near to the Baton Rouge area.

Recently, Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the highly lucrative film series The Twilight Saga, announced that filming for the franchise's final chapter, Breaking Dawn, will partially take place in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A source within the Louisiana Film Commission has disclosed to me that members of the Breaking Dawn production crew have already scouted out the location they are planning to use for the film; which the studio is releasing in two parts.

The scene will be the final confrontation between the Cullen clan, who are joined by the Quileute wolf pack and their friends, and the Volturi. The scene, most of which is taken directly from the novel, has been extended to include several physical fights. It is expected that many Twilight fans will be flocking to Louisiana when the studio begins filming in the area; which is why the exact area the production team has decided on is being kept tightly under wrap.

I feel a roadtrip coming on!!!

::TEAM BREAKING DAWN: Breaking Dawn Crew Concerned Over Shooting in Rio?

Although part of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will be filmed in Rio de Janeiro, the Breaking Dawn plans in Rio may be shelved after a recent firefight and hostage taking incident gave cause for concern.

According to ABC News, the film crew for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn is uneasy about shooting scenes for Breaking Dawn in Rio de Janeiro after a hostage situation at an upscale hotel over the weekend. Riofilme, the company promoting film production in the city, reveals that because of the hostage situation and ensuing firefight, Summit Entertainment is in emergency talks with city officials.

Although original plans called for scenes from Breaking Dawn to be played out in Rio, the incident with a drug gang and their act of taking thirty five people hostage over the weekend may prove scarier for the Breaking Dawn film crew than any vampires or werewolves ever could.

I don't know about anyone else but I don't think any fan wants to put ANY of the cast in danger just to make the movie. Relocate or wait it out. Whats your opinion???

::Team Breaking Dawn:: Stephenie Meyer Says There Is No Drama

Stephanie Meyer has made a public statement on her website answering the rumors that came forth yesterday stating that she and Summit were having creative differences over whether "Breaking Dawn" should be one movie. The following is her note to the fans directly from her website:

"Just a quick note on the subject of the Breaking Dawn film: there is no drama over whether the book should be one movie or two. My personal feeling is that it would be very difficult to cram the whole story into one movie (as I've said in many interviews previous to this), but if a great way of doing that surfaces, I'm all for it. Two or one, whichever way fits the story best is fine by me, and everyone I've spoken with at Summit seems to feel the same way. We're all excited to move forward on this, and we are slowly and surely getting there. I know people are anxious for news, and so sometimes gossip get fabricated to stir things up, but there's no basis to this particular story.

Steph"

::Team Breaking Dawn:: Stephenie Meyer OPPOSED to spliting Breaking Dawn

It's a new year, a new decade, and time for more "Twilight" drama! Surprisingly enough, this time it doesn't involve any of the cast members or crew, but instead the big moguls behind the series itself. E! Online's Ted Casablanca reports news from his Deep Twi that Stephenie Meyer and Summit Entertainment still having disputes over whether "Breaking Dawn" should be one film or two, which is what is causing production on the final installment of the film series to be at a standstill.
"Both sides have very different agendas," Ted reports his mole as saying.
Apparently Stephenie doesn't think two movies is the right thing to do "creatively" for the series (and neither do we), while Summit wants to milk its cash cow for all it's worth. Things haven't gotten dirty yet, but the way "Deep Twi" describes it, all the pressure is on Stephenie.

"They keep trying to persuade her it's the right thing to do artistically. They're constantly waiting for her input," the source is reported to have said.
At this time last year, after the success of "Twilight," shooting for "New Moon" was already underway and a director for "Eclipse" was being picked. Now, "New Moon" has already been released and "Eclipse" is in the editing room, but there hasn't even been a director picked out for "Breaking Dawn." "Eclipse" is set to hit theaters in five months, and if some major steps haven't been made in film production by then, Summit and Stephenie are going to have a lot of angry, anxious fans on their hands.

::Team Breaking Dawn:: Summit Speaks. FINALLY! Chris Weitz not looking good for BD.

Summit on Breaking Dawn: No decision on how many films, “don’t think” Weitz directsAmong the many topics discussed here on this blog, and especially on my Twitter, are questions about The Twilight Saga. More specifically, "what's the deal with Breaking Dawn?" I've avoided saying too much here because most of the information being posted (leaked) has been nothing but rumors and speculation. But thanks to the astute Los Angeles Times' writer Gina McIntyre, we may have some bonafide facts.

Let's get right to the bottom line: McIntyre spoke directly with the film's producer Wyck Godfrey, who is stating publicly that no decision has yet been made as to whether or not the Breaking Dawn novel will be split into two scripts (and two movies) or one. But we've heard that before. What is news, though, is that he is all but confirming that New Moon director Chris Weitz will NOT be back to helm Breaking Dawn, one film or two. He's also confirming that the three stars are on board and the plan is to begin shooting this fall in Vancouver.

"I think everyone would be happy and excited if he came back, but I don't think it's going to happen," Godfrey told The Times. "But right now we're just focused on the treatment and getting that right. At that point, we're going to see who's available and who's appropriate. It's such a complicated book because you have the emotions and the intensity of the love story -- so you need somebody who's just a wonderful director of actors -- and yet it's really complicated from an action and visual effects standpoint. They've got to have both tools in their kit."

As for breaking up Breaking Dawn into two films, "It's a work in process," said Godfrey. "The issue [of whether there will be one or two movies] is not going to be resolved until we get the full treatment and see whether it's organic. If it's not organic, I don't think it will be done, and if it is, it will be. It really has to do with how much level of detail from the books there is, with all of these new vampires that appear in Breaking Dawn, the whole section about Jacob...It's a very long single movie if it does become a single movie."

The three principal actors, Kristen Stewart, Rob Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner have apparently completed their negotiations and are "signed," indicating that Summit may have brokered a deal which would cover either one or two movies. Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg is back on board and hard at work on what will be either one or two films, but whatever the outcome, Breaking Dawn will be made "with an eye toward beginning to shoot in Vancouver this fall."

My own sources have confirmed the information contained in McIntyre's article.

He has also confirmed that Kristen Stewert, Robert Pattinson & Taylor Lautner have been signed on for the project.

::Team Emmett:: Kellan Talks Breaking Dawn and Beyond

If you're psyched about the prospect of a two-part "Breaking Dawn," you're not alone.

"Twilight" hottie Kellan Lutz is also into it.

"They haven't told the rest of us actors yet," he confided exclusively to The Dish Rag at the Hollywood Foreign Press Young Hollywood party last night at Nobu.

"I have read that they are talking to Rob, Taylor and Kristen to negotiate to make 'Dawn' into two movies. I'd love for it to be two films," he added.

How about that "Twilight" TV series rumor? "I just heard that too. I don't know how. You already have the books and the story's been told so beautifully. And there's already 'True Blood' and 'Vampire Diaries,' and they're both great. I don't know how it would work. Twenty two episodes?

And are you listening, Matt Damon? Because Kellan Lutz seriously wants to bro up with you in your "Bourne" action film franchise.

"I'm making this checklist as an actor," he confided. "Right now I just really want to be part of the Bourne franchise and the more I say that, maybe Matt Damon will read it and it and maybe I can play his brother."

We could totally see that. They even look a bit alike.

And on the heels of his co-star Taylor Lautner's move into the teen superhero flick, "Max Steel," Kellan wouldn't mind some super powers himself very soon. "I'd love to be 'Captain America' someday."

He's not sure exactly what his next project will be yet. And its too early to talk specifics. But it's definitely going to in the action or romantic comedy genre. And what else did we learn during our chat with Kellan:

Broad strokes about his upcoming projects
"They're are going to studios to get the funding, and there's one I will produce. Most are action films and a couple of romantic comedies and I'm just thrilled with all the scripts."

On "Twilight" being his Golden Ticket
"People work 20 years to get what we have," Kellan admits. "We really are so lucky. Its like you get a headstart and its all because of the fans. And it's not just about money or getting offers, it's that we can mold our careers."

On attributing "Twilight" franchise success to Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart
"The rest of us, we could suck probably," Kellan says. "It's Rob and Kristen who have the amazing chemistry. Without those two keystones, "Twilight" could have flopped. It really could have."
